Dorian Martin-Smith is an independent author, researcher, writer and project builder whose work spans artificial intelligence, long-term memory, genealogy, philosophy, technical systems and creative publishing. He also publishes books and music under the name Lambo Griffin.

The Archive project

Martin-Smith is the creator and primary longitudinal subject of The Archive, a project that grew from more than three years of ordinary conversations with AI systems. The record includes research questions, personal corrections, technical work, genealogy, creative projects, disagreements and everyday decisions.

The project asks a deceptively difficult question: if an AI remembers more and more about a person over time, does that necessarily make its model of that person more accurate? The work examines the difference between stored facts and understanding, the persistence of corrected errors, the role of inference, and disagreement between AI systems given overlapping evidence.

Writing and publishing

In 2026, Martin-Smith published The Archive under the name Lambo Griffin. The book treats the accumulated human-AI record as material for an experimental biography. It is followed by continued research into correction persistence, evidence states, memory and person-model accuracy.

His second 2026 release, History Is Selective, collects original observations, lyrics and philosophical writing around historical memory, perception, agency, ownership and legacy.

Research outside the books

Martin-Smith also conducts documentary and genealogical research, particularly African American family-history work involving public records, military records, census material, archival collections and DNA evidence. His research practice emphasizes separating documented facts from contextual interpretation and unresolved hypotheses.

His technical work includes independent AI assurance and governance projects focused on evidence, authorization, traceability and correction. Across those projects, the common theme is the same: confidence should not be mistaken for evidence, and a record should be able to show how a conclusion was reached and how it changed.

Public work

Martin-Smith's current public work is collected through The Archive website and related project repositories. Interviews, reviews, research notes and project updates are added as they are published.
